Lucian Newman,Jr.,M.D.,F.A.C.S. has been in practice in Etowah County for over 30 years. He graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and he completed his surgical residency at University Hospital in Birmingham in 1966. He has served as Chief of Staff at both local hospitals (Gadsden Regional Medical Center and Riverview Regional Medical Center). He is also a past President of the Alabama Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. In 1972 he started the Emergency Medical Training Program. The "Dr. Lucian Newman Jr. Outstanding Paramedic Award" is presented annually at Gadsden State Community College.
Lucian Newman, III,M.D., F.A.C.S. was born in Birmingham and grew up here in Gadsden. He attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine and completed his surgical residency in Atlanta. Dr. Newman, III has been involved in teaching laparoscopic surgery since 1990. He has published over 25 articles and 5 textbook chapters on related subjects. He has traveled both domestically and internationally to speak and instruct other surgeons on various aspects of laparoscopic surgery. He has served on the BC/BS physicians advisory for the past 9 years. He has served as the Chief Of Staff and Chief of Surgery at Riverview Regional Medical Center and on the advisory board at Gadsden Regional Medical Center and the Gadsden Surgery Center. He is the founder of ComplyMD a medical coding / documentation software.
Charles Leatherbury Newman,M.D., F.A.C.S. was also born in Birmingham and grew up in Gadsden. He attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine and completed his surgical residency at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in 1995. Dr. Newman has instructed other surgeons on laparoscopic surgery techniques at various international conferences around the world. Overseas instructional tours included 4 weeks in Russia and a week in Italy. He has also published several articles on surgical subjects. Dr. Newman is on the Board of Directors for East Alabama Emergency Medical Services Incorporated and also Chairman of East Alabama Regional Trauma Advisory Council. He has served as Chief of Surgery at both Riverview Regional and Gadsden Regional Medical Centers.
Paul J. Nordness, M.D. comes to us from our sister hospital from Brandon, MS. His vast experience includes postings at practices throughout the South including Grandview Medical Center and academic postings at William Carey University & Merit Health. Many varied publications and presentations of Dr. Nordness's cover colon cancer and laparoscopic & vascular surgeries . He has been in practice at The Surgery Clinic, LLC since January 2, 2018.
